Woodwind instruments: why are they made of metal?
Woodwind instruments fall into the general category of wind instruments. The most common are the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, or saxophone, among others. Their name likely comes from the literal translation from English: woodwind. There are mainly two classes of woodwind instruments: those in the flute family, which produce sound by blowing through them, and those with a reed, which require it to produce sound. How do they produce sound?
