A little bit of Buffet Crampon history
All the clarinetist sector know about the legendary brand Buffet Crampon. This french brand creates clarinets since 1825 in Paris, but later, around 1850, they decided to build saxophones, oboes and other wind instruments too.
We all know too the legendary R13 clarinet model, created on 1950, which combined a professional finish with a popular price. In 2017 they launched the Legend and Tradition clarinets models. Both were widely accepted by professional and student musicians, thanks to the combination of innovation and tradition.
After these successful products, Buffet Crampon decided to go one step further with their usual combination of french wind instrument quality with affordable prices: then they announced the GALA clarinet a few weeks ago.
The Gala characteristics
As we said, Buffet Crampon decided to go further and took the latest design techniques and they applied those to a brand new model: the GALA clarinet.
Always with a professional target in mind without forgetting a logical price, this model is equipped with wooden chimneys made of Stained Grenadilla (dalbergia melanoxylon) and leather pads, plus finishing touches of black nickel-plated rings, medallion and ligature; the thumb rest is adjustable.
About the barrels, they come as following: Bb: 65 and 66 mm; A: 64 and 65 mm. This Buffet GALA clarinet has the Boehm standard key system (Auguste Buffet worked with Hyacinthe Klosé developed it) with a silver plated finish. As usual, the GALA clarinet is available in Bb and A; it also has an optional Eb lever.
It includes a “pochette” style case, giving professional musicians and passionate amateurs a new clarinet “made in France”.
All these details for your eyes and touch senses and the hard research developed by Buffet results in a clarinet characterized by a balanced range, also with a rich harmonics.
Conclusions
After the success of the Legend and Tradition clarinet models, Buffet has taken the best of these models and they placed it in the GALA clarinet, adding the sound research they made this last years.
